This slipper is worked back and forth on straight needles holding two strands of yarn and working them as one. The foot is worked in garter stitch and the toe is ribbed. The heel and toe are seamed and a pompom decorates the toe.
Worsted yarn – 2 skeins (choose 2 skeins same color or 2 different colors)
Size 8 or 9 straight needles (you know how tight of knitter you are)
Abbreviations: K=knit, P=purl, p-wise=slip stitch purlwise, tbl=through the back loop, rib=knit the knits and purl the purls, sts=stitches, wyif=with yarn in front, WS=wrong side, RS=right side
Pattern is written for Women’s Slipper to fit size small. See note below to adjust for other sizes.
Cast on 29 sts with doubled yarn. (Leave long tail for seaming )
Row 1 (WS): K9, P1, K9, P1, K8, wyif slip last st p-wise.
Row 2 (RS): K1 tbl, knit to last st, wyif slip last st p-wise.
Repeat rows 1 & 2 for 16 ridges. End with WS row
RS row: P1, K1 across
WS row: K1, P1 across
Repeat for a total of 12 rows
Cut yarn leaving a 10” (approximately) length and thread onto darning needle. Draw through all sts on knitting needle and pull tightly. Join with other side. From inside sew up hole at toe, then continue on outside to sew up top of ribbing section. Fasten off.
Thread long cast on tail onto darning needle. Fold cast on edge in half and sew together matching “one purl stitch column”.
Make second slipper as first
Finish with pompom.
Note: To change size here are my suggestions.
Woman’s Med: Foot 18 ridges, Toe 14 rows
Woman’s Large: Foot 20 ridges, Toe 14 rows
Mans Size: Cast on 35 and do a K11, P1, K11, P1, K10, wyif slip last st p-wise for Row 1. Foot 20 ridges. Last row before ribbing of toe: K11, P1, K2tog, K7, K2tog, P1, K11. Then do 14 more rows of ribbing.
THESE SIZES ARE APPROXIMATE. MY RULE OF THUMB IS THE FOOT IS 2/3 OF THE SIZE(STRECHED) AND TOE IS 1/3 OF THE SIZE (STRETCHED). THESE SLIPPERS MUST STRETCH TO FIT PROPERLY. WHEN FINISHED THEY WILL LOOK SMALL BUT STRETCH TO COMFORTABLY FIT.
